This has been a stressful week, as I am needing to make some decisions on what to do with MokaKat when I return to work in July. I am on a 12 month Leave of Absence (LOA) from Walmart, where this is my 30th year. I am lucky to work for a company that had treated me excellent and has offered many opportunities in my career. Unfortunately, I will need to leave my life of cruising and head back to work in June or July.
I will have following posts to sum up my year and experiences, but this post is all about MokaKat!
Originally, I was planning on putting MokaKat into a captain and crewed charter company called Belize Sailing Vacation. It is a family owned company, and would have been a great place to leave MokaKat. Unfortunately, they received another boat a few weeks ago, and can't take another one this year.
Our next choice is to leave MokaKat with TMM bareboat charters out of San Pedro, Belize. We have been working closely with Simon, the manager of the Belize branch. This is a good option, and we are still considering it.
So, we decided to put MokaKat on the market for three months with Gary Fretz, Founder and CEO of Yachts International, who was the broker that helped me buy MokaKat. If we don't sell her in the three months, then we will put her into TMM charter. This works well as far as timing, as TMM needs a commitment by July, at the end of the three month listing with Gary.
It has been a hard decision, as we have really enjoyed our year on MokaKat. I have some family obligations that will keep me stateside for the next 4 years, which then I hope to sail again.

I'm confused. Back in May of last year you said that Walmart denied your LOA and that your took retirement, ending your employment with them.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, yes you are right, but I was able to obtain a last minute extension from the 90 day LOA to a 12 month LOA. This expires on July 8th, so I am now back in Arkansas looking for a position.
ReplyDeleteIs your boat still for sale? What is asking price?
ReplyDeleteSorry Anonymous, the boat sold in June!
